When Simple Things Become a Struggle

Getting dressed. Holding a pencil. Sitting at the table. Trying a new food. Joining in at the playground.

For some children, these everyday things can be surprisingly difficult.

You may notice that your child covers their ears around certain sounds, avoids messy play, is constantly moving, falls or bumps into things often, or gets frustrated when using a pencil. They may also need more help with dressing, eating or using the toilet than you expected at their age.

If you're seeing this regularly, you're not imagining it — and you don't have to figure it out on your own.

How We Help

Occupational therapy looks at the things your child is finding difficult and why they might be difficult.

This can include sensory needs, movement and coordination, handwriting and other hand skills, or everyday activities such as dressing, eating and toileting.

The aim isn't to make your child do things a certain way. It's to help them take part in the things that matter to them, with the right support along the way.
