What Causes Adhd And Autism

WHAT CAUSES

WHAT CAUSES ADHD AND AUTISM?

Social delays. Communication difficulties. Repetitive behaviours.

What’s behind them: ADHD? Autism? Both? When conditions overlap, parents need a close understanding of each diagnosis to manage therapy— and everyday life.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or ADD) and autism are neurodevelopmental disorders that impact brain functions. They are different conditions that share some similar behaviours.

What is ADHD?

Most people think that ADHD is nothing and their child is just lazy, isn’t motivated enough, has a low IQ or is just being disobedient. But that’s not the case. And due to this attitude that ADHD is often diagnosed late when the damage is half done. ADHD causes the brain to refuse to perform complex mental tasks like executing certain body functions, like planning, self-monitoring, verbal regulation, motor control, and emotional regulation.

What causes ADHD?

Heredity: It’s one of the most common causes of ADHD that is uncontrollable, but with proper awareness and periodic developmental assessment, you can catch it at an early stage and tone down the effects with early intervention.

Exposure to Toxic Substances: It can be anything from willing intake of something toxic to unknown exposure to toxic gases. Studies have also found an association between children with behaviour & learning issues and their mothers who smoked or used alcohol during pregnancy.

Injury to the Brain from Trauma/Brain Tumors/Strokes: It’s not seen as commonly but can cause problems with inattention and poor regulation of motor activity and impulses.

What is Autism?

Autism is a neurodevelopmental issue. It can show a range varying from highly skilled to severely challenged minds. Children dealing with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) face issues with social skills, communication, speech issues, and behaviour issues, to name a few. As it’s a spectrum disorder, every mind shows different challenges and sometimes different wonders.

There is not one but many subtypes of Autism. These subsets are most influenced by genetic and environmental factors. Children with autism learn, think and solve problems in their own unconventional ways. Whereas some children with ASD may need continuous support in their daily activities, others may need help with just some things.

What causes Autism?

There is NO exact cause of autism, but experts believe that genetics and environment play a crucial role up to some extent. It is recommended that every parent should take an autism screening test for their 18-24 month old baby.

Delayed action after an autism diagnosis can make your child’s life more difficult. Any delay in intervention will negatively impact emotional intelligence, thus, holding them back from their true potential.
